Send WAV stems and multitrack sessions

You have exported ten, twenty or more WAV tracks from the same start point. The vocalist needs the instrumental and a guide, the mix engineer wants every lossless stem, and the producer expects a revision after listening. A ten-track session can easily be bigger than any email will carry, and converting it to MP3 would change exactly the material the other person has to work with.

Transferify is for that handover between production stages. You bundle the multitracks, the reference bounce and the notes in one package and send one link. The recipient downloads in the browser, with no account. The files are not re-encoded, and you choose between hosting for later access and Instant peer-to-peer for a very large delivery while both of you are online.

Prepare the stems before the transfer

A fast transfer does not fix exports that start at different points, mixed sample rates or names like "Audio 17". Preparing the package is the part that lets the engineer open the session without a round of questions.

  1. Export every stem from the same time reference, and keep the length needed to line them up.
  2. Use the same sample rate and bit depth for every deliverable of the same session.
  3. Name the tracks by their role, such as lead vocal, double, kick, bass or synth, not opaque numbers.
  4. Add a reference bounce and a note with the BPM, key, version and production notes.
  5. Keep the stems for mixing apart from the files for mastering and from revisions meant only for listening.

An archive keeps things in order, but it is no promise that the WAVs will get small enough for email. For a big session, start with how to send large files, not with a loss of quality.

Open the package before sending as someone on the team would: check that the index, the bounce and every stem you announced are there, that the names make sense without your DAW project, and that the version note says clearly what is to be mixed. Then the transfer moves a checked session, not just a large amount of data.

Hosted, when the other side downloads later

The hosted mode suits a vocalist or an engineer working in another time zone. You upload the package, send the link and can close the laptop. The other side opens it at the start of their session, without installing an app or making an account.

On the free plan the number of transfers is not capped, but live transfers share one storage allowance. The plan includes 50 downloads in a calendar month, and the link closes after 1–3 days. A bounce and a few stems may fit; a complete multitrack may need a plan with a larger hosted size, up to 100 GB on Plus and 1 TB on Premium.

Instant peer-to-peer for the multitrack that does not fit

Instant peer-to-peer uses no hosted storage. Instant is free up to 5 GB on the free plan, and any paid plan unlocks any size. It helps when the mix engineer is available now and the stem package would go over your plan's hosted size. The condition is firm: you keep the tab open, the recipient stays online, and closing the sender's browser stops the transfer.

Do not use this mode for someone who will open the link after the gig or the next day. Then hosting wins, even if you have to pick a plan to match the volume. The choice is between a live handover and later availability, not between "fast" and "slow". The guide to sending 20 GB and more compares the options for really large sessions.

Protection for unreleased material

An unreleased track, isolated vocals and a client's stems should not circulate as an uncontrolled link. From Basic you can turn on a password and share it on a different channel. On the Premium plan you can turn on Zero-Knowledge encryption, so Transferify cannot decrypt the contents. If you lose the link needed for access, the service cannot open the files for you. The guide on how to send files securely helps you choose the right control before sending.

Download alerts start on Basic and tell you whether and when a download started, never who started it. Plus lets you extend the expiry of a sent transfer. Premium adds download statistics, your logo and colours on every delivery and a branded link address. Compare the current plans with your production calendar and the number of people you work with.

When a shared drive or a DAW platform is better

When the same team swaps the session every day, you need sync, history, comments and clear rules for version conflicts. A managed drive or a DAW collaboration platform wins in that workflow. Transferify does not try to manage the live project; it hands over one bounded version, from producer to vocalist, from studio to mix, or from mix to mastering.

For material that combines picture and sound, the workflow for videographers is closer. If you need to send large audio files or move stems, the rule stays simple: line up the exports, keep the format that was asked for, pick the mode by when the other person is available, and send one package that downloads without an account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send a session of WAV stems bigger than an email allows?

Yes. Use a paid plan such as Basic, whose hosted size of 50 GB holds the package, or choose Instant peer-to-peer for a live handover. Instant is free up to 5 GB on the free plan, and any paid plan unlocks any size.

Does peer-to-peer keep going if I close the tab after sending the link?

No. The sender keeps the tab open, and both people stay online until the transfer has finished.

Does Transferify compress or re-encode the audio?

No. The recipient gets the files you uploaded. Downloading everything may bundle them in one archive, but Transferify does not turn them into MP3s or change the audio format.

What are the free plan's limits for audio files?

The number of sessions you send is not capped, but bounces that are still live share the same storage. Free includes 50 downloads per calendar month and links that stay open for 1–3 days, enough for an artist to have a listen.

Can I protect stems with a password and Zero-Knowledge?

A password and download alerts start on Basic, and Zero-Knowledge encryption is available on the Premium plan.
